Douglas and Karen pride themselves on portraying their subjects as naturally as possible. They feel that the true artistry of the photographer lies in the selection of the subject, creative use of light, composition, color, form and texture, rather than relying on visual gimmicks. This principle is carried through to their darkroom process, all of which they do themselves. After they scan their original film transparencies, the images are digitally processed using Photoshop, and only traditional darkroom controls are utilized such as dodging, burning, color control, cropping, etc. Please keep in mind that the Fine Art Prints are much more exquisite than what the examples on this Web site are capable of showing. The prints are museum-quality and are carefully created by Douglas and Karen. Even a properly calibrated monitor does not match the color and rich detail of these prints. All Fine Art Prints are made using some of the finest archival materials available. These include Epson pigment inks, Hahnemühle acid-free Fine Art Pearl paper (285 gsm), and Light Impressions Westminster museum-quality mat board, bright white, 4-ply (used for both the window mat and backer board). Prints are secured in place within the window mats using archival tape – they are not dry-mounted. Fine Art Prints have an archival rating estimate of up to 200 years before any noticeable fading occurs (depending upon display or storage conditions). The image area of each print measures approximately 12" x 18" with a mat size of 18" x 24". Fine Art Prints are signed on the mat in pencil, as well as on the edge of the print in ink (which is concealed by the mat). Prints are sold as open edition. Matted Fine Art Prints are placed in clear, archival sleeves before being packaged for shipping. In order to protect the prints from potential damage, it is recommended that they be kept safely in the protective sleeves until they are framed. |
